Wigan Borough Green Socialists – March 2012 – Forthcoming Events

Sat 17th March – National Anti-Fracking Gathering, Methodist Hall, Oldham Street, Manchester

11.00am – 6.00pm

Find out more about the new fossils fuel scourge that’s coming to a field near you soon: hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’ for Shale Gas.

Meet other local groups who are campaigning against fracking. Discuss what we can do to build a national coalition against fracking. Learn new skills from others and how to get the best out of your local campaign.

Event will include a presentation from the Tyndall Centre, speakers from ‘Frack Off’ and other anti-fracking campaigners across the country.

Mon 19th March – Wigan Diggers’ Festival Commitee Meeting, The Anvil Pub, Dorning Street (adjacent Wigan Bus Station) 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Please feel free to suggest agenda items. As we need to formally adopt a constitution to open a bank account, this will needless to say, be an item.

Other suggested items include: Report backs on the Wellingborough Diggers’ Festival, the event at The Wiend on Saturday, Funding Bids, our Promo Leaflet, Celebrity & Band updates, Commemorative Beers, TU Appeal Letter, involvement of other organisations (such as the College and the Culture & Leisure Trust), other matters arising from the minutes.

Hope to see some of you there.

Please print off your own copy of our last meeting’s minutes, also a copy of the Draft Constitution (see Docs section of our facebook page)

Sat 24th March – One Million Climate Jobs Caravan – Bolton & Wigan Organising Committee, Bolton Socialist Club, Wood Street, Bolton 12.00 noon – 2.00pm

First get together of everyone interested in being involved with the visit of the One Million Climate Jobs National Caravan to our area. It’s coming to Bolton & Wigan Boroughs on the 21st & 22nd May respectively.

If you want to get involved then you should get along to this meeting which is supported by Leigh UNITE & GMATUCs

Wed 28th March – M28 National Day of Action on Public Sector Pensions

28th March looks to be the next day of co-ordinated action against public sector pension cuts, by at least the so-called ‘Refusenik’ unions (PCS, NUT & UCU) and it’s our duty to raise the profile of the action, and to develop support in our workplaces and communities to ensure they get over their message on the day, that their members will not work longer, and pay more, in order to receive less, as well as leave an even darker future for future generations!

Activity around the strikes in the Wigan area is yet to be arranged. Please watch this space for details as they emerge.

Sat 31st March – National Day of Action on Workfare, Outside Tescos Store, Market Street, Manchester. 12.00 noon – 2.00pm
